Pipe Band Triumph - Eight in a Row
Again Dollar Academy’s Pipe Band are CCF Pipes and Drums Champions of Scotland. The rain held off long enough at Ravelston, Edinburgh, in order to allow the band to perform at its best. The Edinburgh Academy were runners-up, and the hosts, Stewart’s Melville, came in third position. Dollar’s B Band, which showed tremendous potential, was not far behind.
2007 is now the eighth consecutive year in which the Dollar Aca demy Band has won the premier trophy in Scottish schools piping, and reflects tremendous credit on the work of Mr Craig Stewart, Mr David Methven and the drumming instructors Mr Lee In nes and Mr George Mair.
After their departure from Edinburgh, the band prepared for its traditional march from Bridge Street in Dollar up the West Burnside, along Academy Place to the front of the Academy where an impromptu display was put on the for many people of Dollar who had turned up as ever to admire the band. The family atmosphere continued afterwards as parents, friends, and band-members crowded into the CCF building where the celebrations continued.
Th ere were numerous individual awards in addition, and these will be separately listed. It was particularly pleasing, however, to note the success of Drum Major Calum Martin (who had led the massed bands on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade earlier this term) in the Drum Majors' Cadre.
Congratulations to everyone in the bands on a memorable day. Onwards to Sports Weekend.
