The Sponsored Walk took place on Friday 30th September 2005. In Assembly the Rector praised pupils for their display of determination and remarkable cheerfulness, especially considering the rain that fell intermittently during the day. "It was not," he declared "exactly a walk in the park." He congratulated pupils on the energy which they had shown not only during the walk but also in their completion of sponsor cards. A very remarkable £42,188.57 has already been pledged.
Deputy Rector, Mr Geoff Daniel, was keen to thank all those who had helped with the walk, especially the Red Cross, parents who were given an enhanced role this year, and land owners for their support and assistance in helping the event to run. He emphasised that this year's walk was marked by enhanced safety procedures: a doubling of the number of first aid posts, the presence of two nurses, and a doctor on call in the hills. Despite the weather which deteriorated during the day, and the participation of some 1300 people, there had been minimal injuries. The event had a very positive community feel to it.
Money is being raised for the following five charities: St Andrews Clinics for Children (health care in sub-Saharan Africa); Water Aid (the global project to provide clean water); Shelter (UK support for homeless people); Play Alloa (for children with special needs in Clackmannanshire); Rachel House (the children's hospice in Kinross).
