ICT First Line Support

This position offers an opportunity for the successful candidate to become part of our ICT team, and to play an important role in the maintenance and development of our extensive ICT facilities. We are looking for an individual to work under the direction of the existing Head of ICT and Assistant Network Manager, but the person appointed will also have the ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, and an appetite for problem-solving in a network environment. This is not a teaching position, and, although patterns of working will be affected by academic term dates, many tasks are best undertaken when normal classes are not in operation. The exact contract offered will be negotiable, with salary dependent on terms, on qualifications and on experience.

Dollar Academy operates RM networks with in excess of 400 PC terminals, which are spread throughout the principal teaching areas, administrative centres and boarding houses. The Art Department, housed in the recently opened Maguire Building, also operates its own dedicated suite of Macs, which are linked with the main school network. The person appointed will act as first line support for all areas of the ICT facilities, and will undertake the basic troubleshooting of queries involving hardware, software, printers and network equipment. The ability to prioritise tasks will be important, as will an aptitude for analysing and solving a wide range of problems.

Although there are no specific requirements for this position, the following list gives an indication of factors which may be taken into consideration:

  • A genuine interest in, and enthusiasm for, PCs and computer related matters.
  • A basic understanding of computer hardware, and, preferably, PC networks.
  • Good knowledge of Windows XP and standard applications, such as Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to be flexible with time, to work well under pressure, and to work supportively with a wide range of people.

In addition to its curricular provision, Dollar Academy also offers a rich array of extra-curricular activities and has a significant number of boarding pupils living on campus. A willingness to participate in other aspects of Academy life would be welcome. Letters of application, accompanied by full CV and the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two professional referees, should be sent to The Rector, Dollar Academy, Dollar FK14 7DU, by Friday 22nd June at the latest. Interviews will take place shortly afterwards.
