St Paul’s Memorial Service for Sir Ian Morrow
The choir of Dollar Academy was invited to sing in the Crypt Chapel of St Paul’s during the Memorial Service held on Wednesday 6 September in recognition of the outs tanding lifetime contribution of Sir Ian Morrow. Under the baton of Mr John McGonigle, who stood to conduct on the flagstones commemorating Sir Arthur Sullivan and Hubert Parry, the choir performed Handel’s Zadoc the Priest and Monteverdi’s Amen. The quality of the choir’s performance drew praise from all quarters, and the choir has been invited back to sing in St Paul’s.
In front of a congregation of over 400, tributes were paid to the life of Sir Ian, a Dollar Former Pupil, who had been, amongst many other things, a member of the Academy governing board for 44 years. The Rector stressed in his address the huge significance of Sir Ian’s contribu tion in guiding Dollar with such vision.
The choir, accompanied by Mr McGonigle, Mrs Nelson, Mr Gibb and Dr McGrattan relished the opportunity to perform at this early point in the school session. They also very much enjoyed the brief spell in London which took in a performance of Guys and Dolls.
Lady Morrow and her family were highly appreciative of Dollar’s contribution to this memorable occasion.
