Dunfermline Abbey Visit

Often without realising it, the J2 classes discover that there is history right on our doorstep! Less than half an hour away from school lies the ancient capital of Scotland, Dunfermline, where there are many links with the period of history which every J2 child studies. Each Autumn for many years we have made a visit to Dunfermline Abbey where Mr Arthur Ballantine, formerly of Historic Scotland, sheds light on various aspects of the Abbey's past and highlights the present day reminders of Malcolm III Canmore and Queen Margaret, both of which help to bring to life the personal studies which the children compile at this time. Once again this year, the visit opened many an eye and encouraged several to explore more widely during the October break.....to the towns of North and South Queensferry, the Forth Bridges themselves, Edinburgh Castle, each of which has a link with Margaret:Queen and Saint (1046 - 1093).
