Prep 1 Soap Making
One of our Prep 1 Mums, Mrs Fiona Ritchie, kindly agreed to come into school and tell us about the way soap is made. Mrs Ritchie has her own soap-making business. We talked about the different kinds of soap that we use everyday. She showed us the plain soap she uses sometimes to make soap. We looked at how it melted as she heated it. While we were waiting for it to melt, we did a quiz about different smells. We had to try and identify the scent of oranges, bananas, lavender and cherries. When the soap was ready, we added colour and scent and a little spot of glitter! We poured the mixture into heart-shaped moulds. We made little boxes, which we packed with tissue paper. When the soap had hardened, we popped our little heart-shaped soaps into the box, all ready to give to a loved one on Valentines’ Day.
