The Kids' Lit Quiz
Eight pupils recently represented Dollar Academy in an international literature competition, ‘The Kids’ Lit Quiz,’ held in The Merchants’ Hall in Edinburgh.
The Kids’ Lit Quiz started in 1991 and was held throughout New Zealand, it has now expanded into a global event and heats are held in countries throughout the world including the United Kingdom, China and South Africa.
The eight Dollar Academy pupils made up two teams of four and competed against 18 other teams at the event. They answered one hundred questions relating to literature from ten different categories.
Team one consisted of Fionn Hargreaves, Michael Clark, Edward Torrance and Lucy O’Brien. They came third in the competition, missing first place by one mark. The organisers described it as the closest ranking competition ever held.
Team two consisted of Ruth Cameron, Calum Worsley, Kathryn Lang and Campbell Keith. Team two came sixth in the competition, five points behind the winning team. Team two won spot prizes for their specialist knowledge of classic children’s literature.
Congratulations also to Eden Wood and Gordon Mackay who attended the event as supporters and were extremely vocal in their support of both teams. |
