The first week of term saw Leavers’ Matches against both the Hockey 1st XI and the Rugby 1st XV. These are key fixtures in preparation for the demanding season ahead.
Mrs Gill Robb praised her new squad for their “fast and fit performance” and highlighted the success of captain Emily Bain’s individual runs and excellent finishing. With quite a few of last year’s 1st XI unavailable, scoring was rather one-sided, but even so the Leavers worked hard to give valuable defensive practice to the developing team.
1st XV coach John Foster was delighted to see so many old faces back for a match, the result of which could easily have gone either way. The game, he felt, answered many questions in terms of team selection.
Both matches were well attended by supporters and it is hoped that good crowds will be there supporting our teams on Saturday mornings whether the fixtures be at home or away.
