For only the third time since the start of the Heriot’s competition in 1966, our Rugby Sevens team managed to become winners in the final – a particularly strong display with 27-0 score against Stewart’s Melville College. Dominant in the scrum and in defence with only two tries scored against them in the whole afternoon, the Dollar boys were well supported by Bill Auld’s solid platform at stand -off and by the speed of winger Matthew Pope. Try-scoring was a shared experience, however, with many individuals managing to cross the line to collect points.
The girls’ Hockey Sevens team provided two impressive displays by reaching the finals of both the Heriot’s and the George Watson’s competitions. Captain Emily Bain attributes success to strong team work and persistence. With just a little more steam in the boiler, either of these finals might have been won.
Congratulations to the twenty players who participated in these testing competitions and to their hard-working coaches.
