The Athelings

Every year, 18 young hopefuls are sent on an epic journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Their mission: To shoot in a series of international competitions in Canada.

These 18 young shooters make up a team known as “The Athelings,” they are an elite group of youngsters, selected from the Cadet movement throughout the UK. During their tour (which lasts nearly a month) they will compete against Canadian Cadets and also against world class shots. This is the greatest achievement possible for a Cadet Marksman in the UK, and Dollar Academy pupils have been contributing to this extraordinary team for the last ten years.

Since 1997, Dollar has been sending pupils across the great divide as part of the exchange. In total, there have been 14 pupils involved; with many of them going on to represent the Full National squad and also Great Britain. This is a testament to the level of coaching and support that Dollar Academy Rifle Club is able to offer. This year, both Alanna Lean and Robert Morgan (both Form VI) have been selected. They follow in the footsteps of such cadets as Natalie Sarafilovic and Iain McCallum who made the team last year.

We wish them the best and hope to be able to maintain Dollar’s contribution to International shooting in the future.
