Berlin Art Tour
In December 2006, forty eight Dollar Academy Art and Photography pupils visited Berlin. Staying in the quirky but cool ‘Transit’ Hotel they took in the sights and sounds of the surrounding Kreutzberg district, with its Turkish cafes, eccentric locals and second hand shops. The Art Tour soaked up the atmosphere of the city and captured in photographs and sketches the charm of old Berlin, and the stark, gleaming dynamism of its most recent architecture.
Modern paintings at the Mies van der Rohe ‘Neue’ National Gallery, video installations at the Hamburger Banhoff, ancient and classical sculpture at the Pergamon, harrowing images by Kathe Kollwitz, and design classics at the Bauhaus Museum: the pupils sketched, wrote about and discussed a wealth of art. Somehow, in between all this they found time for shopping in the Christmas Markets, ice skating, and much singing and Christmas cheer. A great time was had by all.
